Rudy Sparkuhl and Photorealism

Rudy is a photo realistic artist based in London Ontario. Born in Germany, Rudy grew up in Montreal. Sparkuhl obtained his Master of Fine Arts from Concordia University and has been perfecting his skills as a photorealistic painter since the 70’s. 

​He has exhibited professionally since 1977 including numerous solo exhibitions at Atelier J. Lukacs gallery in Montreal, Karney-Daniels Gallery, Theodore Museum and Nancy Poole’s Studio in Toronto and Gibson Gallery here in London. His work can be found in private collections internationally including the City of Toronto Archives and Confederation Gallery in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Danielle Hoevenaars comments on the collection presented in his upcoming solo exhibition at Westland Gallery; “While the subject matter ranges from New York City to Wortley Village, and from still lifes to forest scenes, it is the style and technique of photorealism that unites Rudy’s collection and sets it apart.”

“Photorealism makes use of the photograph as a way to obtain detailed information about the scene. The artist then employs careful and precise paint application to achieve the highest level of accuracy possible,” says Hoevenaars. 

Work from the full length of his career including a 1975 painting previous to Rudy’s explorations with airbrushing to 2016 works.
