ReVision With Erica Dornbusch

Being visually impaired since birth means I have become well versed in secondary methods of observation. My senses have always felt inextricably intertwined.

Now experiencing expanded vision loss, I'm deep diving into a more intuitive approach to visually narrate the inner lives, sacred places, and essence of people and landscapes.

None of us has the same visual perspective, for no human eye will ever see the same.

And we do not see the truth of things as they are; rather as we ourselves are.

With ReVision, I want to summon a shared experience. I aim to draw you in, to recall those shadowy figures once glimpsed in your own periphery.

Wander into my field of vision and pause halfway to lean against a guardian cow's warm flank and experience her hushed murmurs under an August full moon. I want you to feel oddly and expansively at home while you view this work. Then, when you depart, I hope it will be with a heightened perception of those things that usually don't quite register; but somehow call up bits of songs, someone's loving touch or a long forgotten scent.

Ocular albinism in an inherited condition in which the eyes are missing melanin pigment, though the skin and hair show normal or near-normal coloration. A lack of pigment in the eyes results in reduced visual acuity, astigmatism (imperfection in the curvature of the eye's lens), nystagmus (involuntary back-and-forth movement of the eyes), strabismus (lazy eye) and extreme light sensitivity).

I am feeling very pleased to read the thoughts and experiences of this visually impaired lady. There are very few people who take their weaknesses as their strengths and develop the secondary skills and make their recognition through them.
