Jamie Jardine
Jamie Jardine has been teaching painting lessons to Jane Roy since 2018; only a few years after she had begun painting.

Jane writes, “As a motivated adult learner, I love the learning curve I have been on; learning “just to see.” For as many times as it has been exciting and rewarding, there have been times of frustration; there is so much to learn.”
Jamie is a patient and creative teacher; he demonstrates different ways of learning and delves deeper into a concept when Jane is ready. While critiquing Jane’s work, Jamie focuses on being encouraging by concentrating the conversation on the good parts of the work, while also making suggestions.

Jamie supports Jane’s independence as a painter by encouraging her to discover what she is passionate about. Although many of Jamie’s lessons are structured around the process of working with oils and how he completes a landscape painting, he urges Jane to maintain individualism instead of directly replicating his process.

Jamie’s most notable influence on Jane’s practice was in the area of confidence.

“The confidence, just to show up, the confidence to start, the confidence to put brush to canvas, the confidence on where to go with a painting and the confidence to let people see the work and the process of the work. Developing confidence has become more about the discipline of showing up and getting to work.”

Jamie emphasizes practicing and developing the ability to see. For Jane, finding the inspiration in the world around her has become a daily occurrence.
“Every day - I see the beauty and wonder of the changing skies all around!”

Jane Roy

Jane Roy is known for her contribution in leading the poverty fight at London Food Bank and for her humanitarian efforts in South Sudan. One of Roy’s exhibitions held at the Westland Gallery sent all proceeds to the efforts in South Sudan. Roy paints on her own weekly, while also taking lessons with London artist Jamie Jardine where they paint together, side by side.

Jamie Jardine

Jamie Jardine studied Fine Art at Fanshawe College from 1996-2000. Jardine is currently a private visual arts teacher as well as a working artist. Throughout his career, Jardine has exhibited works at galleries in Toronto and London, as well as Westland Gallery.
