Fred Harrison was Donna Andreychuk’s painting instructor in weekly group lessons for seven years. Donna had very little experience in painting prior to her lessons with Fred, who was working with acrylic paint in an impasto and expressionistic way. Donna adopted a similar style to her work, though Fred did not teach the class to paint exactly like he does. Fred always encouraged his students to express themselves and their individual voice.
Donna admired Fred’s ability to capture light and to quickly and accurately depict figures from life. In the warm weather, Fred’s lessons were taught outside where his students could learn to paint en plein air.
Fred lived a life of a true artist. He was very humble; making work and teaching lessons that would ultimately help him make a living. He completed numerous murals throughout Canada. Most notably in London, was his mural for Rainbow Cinemas, which Donna helped him with.
Donna Andreychuk’s practice includes large-scale abstract expressionist landscapes. Andreychuk’s art has been featured in many solo and group exhibitions and is included in private and corporate collections worldwide. Over the past decade it has appeared in many publications and television programs. The recipient of numerous awards, she is represented by several commercial galleries in Canada.
