“One Step Beyond,” is a new solo exhibition with work by Andrew Lewis opening on November 22nd.
Andrew Lewis is best known for his eye-catching graphic art and has created over 700 posters. Lewis has worked for 150 companies, and has won countless awards for his designs. Lewis has travel the globe, as has his work; 2016 saw Lewis’ work exhibited in Moscow, Warsaw, Mexico City, Caracas, and Ogaki Japan. This year Lewis designed a stamp for Canada Post, collectable Euro coins for the Mint of Rome, and posters for Princeton University. Lewis will be showing at Museum London next year.
As recognizable as Lewis’ work is, his style is one that is always evolving, and “One Step Beyond” reflects that.
“Lewis has taken steps in innovative directions for this exhibition, including new mediums and processes. Watercut wood and brushed steal are used as part of functional pieces that can be hung on the wall or utilized as a side table. The cats and wiener dogs that were tremendously popular during Lewis’ previous show at Westland gallery will make their long-awaited return. Winnie, Lewis’ wiener-dog, is his ‘number one’ muse.” – Harper Wellman, Intern from Western University currently on placement at Westland Gallery.
Figurative sculpture pieces, inspired by literature and poetry, mark another first for Lewis. These pieces stand alongside recent original paintings and new silkscreen prints.
A public reception will be held on Friday November 25th at 7:30pm. Andrew Lewis will be giving an artist talk on Wednesday November 30th at 7:00pm. The artist talk is free, all may attend. No RSVP required.
